Chapter 01: Blog

09 August 2020

Hello World

Everything has to start with something. This blog post is the start of this website.
Let's see where the ride will take us.

trashbytes

I've worked on my personal brand for the better part of a decade now. It all started in an Internet Relay Chat (yeah, I know) and we were thinking about a name or phrase which would sound cool and "techy" but could also be used as an excuse if other people don't think that what I'm doing is of much value. The name says it all: It's "trash". But it's digital and ironic? Or is it? I'll let you decide.

The website

This is not the first attempt at creating a personal website.

I've been fascinated with the web and technology since I was a little kid. While dabbling with early versions of knoppix, suselinux and, of course, ubuntu, I quickly realized that there is no such thing as the perfect OS, or software, for that matter. I always find something to improve, at least subjectively. I've revived a few crappy PCs and laptops with "lightweight" Linux distributions (some of which were NOT based on Ubuntu, believe it or not).

My interests where constantly shifting from one topic to another but one thing stayed with me: Design and Code.
I've hosted several iterations of "my homepage" on free webhosters, utilizing free domains, most of them blacklisted by Google, proudly presenting my work as a web developer, 3D artist and an avid GIMP (the software) fanatic.

But every single time the process of creating the website was more fun than actually creating content to put on it.
Maybe this time will be different.

Closing words

I've been wanting to create this iteration of my personal website for a while now. Read why in the about page.

Let's hope it's of help to somebody, even if it's just me and the people I force to read it.
